Southwest Airlines has this week launched six new flights from it’s operation at Orlando International Airport.

The U.S carrier has placed a lot of focus in Latin America and the Caribbean, as we will explore in this article.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Southwest Airlines has launched the following flights from Orlando this week:

  • Cancun, Mexico
  • Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • San José, Costa Rica

These new flights complement existing flights from Orlando to Aruba and Montego Bay and San Juan.

In a statement, Southwest Airlines said the folllowing:

“Southwest Airlines celebrated its central Florida expansion at Orlando International Airport (MCO) with the launch of new nonstop routes to tropical destinations.”

“To commemorate these inaugural flights, the airline and airport hosted a water arch salute and a parade of nations featuring music and food in departure gates to highlight the unique cultures of each new destination with music, dancing, and decorations.”

Adapting to External Delivery Pressures…

These new flights from Orlando shows that despite external delivery pressures, Southwest Airlines is adapting.

At the JP Morgan Industrials Conference a couple of months ago, Southwest Airlines have confirmed delays of Boeing 737 aircraft, with no MAX 7 deliveries at all this year.

Southwest Airlines has said that they expect to receive far fewer Boeing 737 MAX aircraft this year.

It is understood that of the MAX 8, this has been reduced down from 58 to 46 units.

With no MAX 7 deliveries expected this year, the previous total delivery expectation was at 79.

Furthermore, significant delays are also being faced on the MAX 7 variant, which is producing headaches for other customers as well.

This reaffirms previous reports of the airline taking the aircraft out of their fleet plan for 2024.

Of that particular variant of aircraft, Southwest Airlines has over 300 on order.

In conclusion, the new flights from Orlando with Southwest Airlines are to be celebrated.

It shows exactly what happens when adaptation to a difficult situation is implemented correctly.

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on whether any new flights will be unveiled, as well as how much further they can mitigate the delivery delays.

But for now, the airline will take pride in connecting Latin America and the Caribbean further.
