Aircraft scrambled from Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia

Reports showing now fighter jets have been scrambled from the airbase as Iran fires missiles at the US base in Qatar, sparking a major escalation on the region which has seen Qatar and the UAE close their airspace for civilian aircraft, no information is available about their mission at this time.

UAE Joins Qatar and Closes Airspace

Following recent announcements from Qatar, the UAE has announced that it will also be closing its airspace to all commercial air traffic effective immediately, with the last 3 aircraft inbound being able to land, but the rest needing to divert and make U-turns.

Qatar Airways Begins Mass Diversions To Türkiye

Data on AirNav Radar now showing multiple Qatar Airways aircraft are diverting as it seems the airspace may be closed slightly longer than they are able to remain airborne. Furthermore, all inbound aircraft shown below are now making diversions to Türkiye.

Qatar Air Defence Systems Activate

Also, footage has been released of Qatari Air defence systems firing after confirmation of ballistic missiles being fired at the US airbase. Furthermore, it is understood the missiles have been intercepted, no confirmation on anything else at this time.

Qatar Closes Air Space to All Commercial Air Traffic

In the last few moments it has been announced that Qatar will close it’s airspace for all commercial air traffic. Also, the government said this move was made “in order to ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors”.

Furthermore, the announcement was made via a post on X and has been followed up with important announcements from foreign governments as the situation develops.

Qatar is home to the largest US military base in the Middle East, Al Udeid Air Base. Also, about 8,000 US citizens live there, according to the State Department.

Moreover, this latest development as come after “a credible threat” to the US-run coalition air operations centre at Al Udeid Air Base, with base personal being put on high readiness.
