Etihad Airways is charting a new course for its employees, launching an innovative Employee Cadet Pilot program that offers a unique pathway.

Recognizing the immense talent within its ranks, the airline has awarded 10 coveted scholarship places to internal candidates of diverse nationalities. This will enable them to pursue their dreams of becoming pilots.

This initiative builds upon the resounding success of the UAE National Cadet Programme, which garnered over 2,000 applications last year. The number demonstrate the high demand for pilot training within the region.

With a diverse workforce currently encompassing 145 nationalities, Etihad is empowering its employees to make significant career transitions.

10 Candidates Selected from Internal Departments

The 10 successful candidates all hail from various internal departments. These include Cabin Crew and Flight Dispatch. The new inductees will soon commence their rigorous cadet pilot training.

Their diverse backgrounds, representing eight different nationalities, give a sense of Etihad’s dedication to inclusivity.

Notably, seven of the selected candidates are women, a testament to Etihad’s commitment to gender equality in aviation. This achievement is particularly significant as it coincides with International Women’s Day. It highlights the airline’s efforts to empower women in the industry.

“We are proud to celebrate the diversity of our cadet pilot intake. A majority of the successful candidates are women,” Dr. Bastaki adds. “At Etihad, we believe in providing opportunities for our employees to reach their full potential.”

Selection Process

The selection process was demanding, involving a two-month rigorous application period. Candidates underwent comprehensive assessments, including tests in English, mathematics, physics, and pilot aptitude. This was supplemented by psychometric evaluations and medical examinations.

The announcement of the successful candidates was met with enthusiastic applause at Etihad’s annual employee engagement forum. 2,500 airline employees attended the proceedings.

One selected female candidate expressed her joy, stating, “I am thrilled to be selected. I can show my son that dreams really can come true.”

Captain Fahad Alseiari, Head of the Cadet Pilot Programme at Etihad Airways, emphasizes the program’s focus on developing world-class pilots. “Our primary objective is to cultivate pilots who meet Etihad Airways’ stringent operational and safety standards,” he explains.

“The program combines comprehensive theoretical education with practical flying experience, utilizing the latest aircraft models and technologies to ensure our cadets are well-prepared for the demands of modern aviation.”

Training in UAE and Spain

The two-year program includes training in both the UAE and Spain, blending classroom-based learning with advanced full flight simulator sessions. This comprehensive approach ensures that graduates possess the necessary skills to meet Etihad’s high operational standards and contribute to the airline’s global success.

This marks the first time Etihad has launched an employee-exclusive Cadet Pilot program, offering its staff a unique opportunity to pursue their aviation ambitions.

The Employee Cadet Pilot program will play a vital role in developing a sustainable pipeline of skilled talent.

It supports Etihad’s continued growth and solidifying its position as a leading global airline. By investing in its employees, Etihad is not only fostering individual growth but also strengthening its workforce and securing its future in the competitive aviation industry.
