Icelandair has announced a new lease partnership with China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC), marking a further step in its fleet modernization journey.
The airline has secured lease agreements for two state-of-the-art Airbus A321LR aircraft, set to be delivered directly from Airbus during the winter season of 2026/2027.
This collaboration underscores Icelandair’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, sustainability, and passenger comfort while expanding its global reach.
Phaseout of Boeing 757 Fleet
The Airbus A321LR, a narrow-body aircraft with an extended range, is a cornerstone of Icelandair’s strategy to phase out its aging Boeing 757 fleet.
These new aircraft boast superior fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, aligning with Icelandair’s ambitious sustainability goals.
By integrating advanced technology, the A321LR supports the airline’s efforts to minimize its environmental footprint while maintaining a robust and reliable route network across Europe, North America, and beyond.
Passengers can look forward to an elevated travel experience with the A321LR’s innovative Airspace cabin design.
This award-winning cabin offers wider seats, larger overhead bins, and enhanced lighting, creating a more spacious and comfortable environment.
With modern in-flight entertainment systems and improved air quality, the A321LR ensures a refreshing journey. This is a welcome upgrade for transatlantic routes.

Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are delighted to collaborate with CALC as we continue to modernize our fleet.”
“These Airbus A321LR aircraft are a perfect fit for our vision of delivering exceptional travel experiences. Meanwhile, they prioritize efficiency and sustainability. This step strengthens our ability to connect passengers across our growing network.”

Supporting Transatlantic Routes
Icelandair, the flag carrier of Iceland, operates from its hub at Keflavík International Airport. It offers a unique stopover program as a key part of its marketing. This allows passengers to explore Iceland for up to seven days at no additional airfare.
The addition of these A321LR aircraft will enhance Icelandair’s ability to serve its transatlantic routes efficiently. This currently connects major cities like New York, London, and Copenhagen with Iceland’s natural wonders.
This partnership with CALC reflects Icelandair’s forward-thinking approach to fleet management and environmental responsibility.
By investing in cutting-edge aircraft, the airline is well-positioned to meet the demands of modern travellers while contributing to a greener future.
As Icelandair continues to grow, passengers can expect more seamless connections, and improved inflight comfort.
